Holiday Hours and Events of Note!

As the New Year's weekend approaches, we'd like to remind you that we have special hours this upcoming weekend. Our Holiday Hours are:
  • Friday, December, 30, 2011 - Normal hours
  • Saturday, December 31, 2011 - close at 3 PM (10 AM to 3 PM)
  • Sunday, January 1, 2012 - Closed all day.
  • Monday, January 2, 2012 - Normal hours resume.

After the New Year Weekend, if you're looking for a few special events to take your children too, stop by the library!
  • Story-Guitar Time with Miss Michelle resumes on Monday, and Friday at Blue Bell at 10:30 AM, Wednesday at Blue Bell at 4:30 PM and Tuesday at Ambler at 10:30 AM and Thursday at Ambler at 7 PM. All ages.
  • Let's Read Math meets on Wednesday, January 4 at 5 PM for Grades K-2 and NEW, a time for Grades 3-5 at 5:30 PM to 6 PM. Let's Read Math is an event where stories and math combine! Registration required, space is limited. (at Blue Bell)
  • Tween/Teen Felt Creation meets on Wednesday, January 4, at 7 PM Learn new stitches as you make a nifty project. Registration required. Space is limited. For ages 9-17 Sign up here.  (At Blue Bell)

Paper Art Club - Coming in January 2012

Interested in creating paper animals?
Never knew how to make them?

Paper Art Club is the club for you! New to the library, it's a group open to anyone interested in learning beginner origami. Sessions will consist of learning step-by-step origami instructions to make simple origami figures, mainly animals. Paper Art Club will be held on Saturday afternoons at 2:30 PM starting on January 7 and ending March 24 (12 weeks).

Paper Art Club is a fun and relaxing way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Any child can join! If you are interested, sign up online here or call the library at 215-643-1320 ex. 20. Drop-ins are welcome. You do not have to attend every session. For more information contact the library at "youth [at] wvpl [dot] org" and write "Paper Art Club" in the subject line.

Reading Buddies @ WVPL Blue Bell Changes Day and Time

Reading Buddies, the event for kids where kids in grades K-2 are paired with a teen buddy who will listen to the younger child read, is changing day and time. Starting on January 11, Reading Buddies will meet on Wednesdays at 5 PM. Reading Buddies will then take a break in February.

Reading Buddies is the perfect opportunity for a child to practice his or her reading skills by reading aloud to a teen buddy. Teens interested in volunteering should e-mail Miss Tegan at youth[at]wvpl[dot]org.

Reading Buddies is for students in grades K-2. Registration is required please find a link online to sign up for each date here.

Blue Bell Lego Club

You've heard of it: Lego Club At the Library but did you know that your own local library has Lego Club?

Build, Design, and Create @ Your Library at WVPL-Blue Bell's own Lego Club. This event is open to children ages 3 and up (parents of children ages 5 and under must attend) and happens on the second and third Thursday of the month at 4:30 PM. We provide the Legos and Duplos while your child provides the imagination and creations!

TAG - You're It!

What is TAG? TAG stands for Teen Advisory Group, a group of many teens who want to help the library but are limited on time. Earn up to one volunteer hour by helping the library plan fun events just for teens, volunteer opportunities from one time events for kids to on-going opportunities to brainstorming graduation project ideas, or contributing book, movie, or video game suggestions for the library to purchase.

  • Blue Bell TAG meets on the first Saturday of the month at 11 AM
  • Ambler TAG meets on the third Saturday of the month at 11 AM
For ages 13-17. Earn up to 1 volunteer hour for attending.

December Events for Children and Teens at WVPL

The Holiday season is here and we certainly have lots of events going on at Wissahickon Valley Public Library for children and teens!

You may have noticed in November that Blue Bell started offering online registration for events. In December, we will be offering both online registrations and paper registrations at our children’s desk in Blue Bell. Starting January 2, 2012, we are moving to online registrations for all children’s and teen programs happening at Blue Bell.

Continuing children’s events!
Reading Buddies, which happens on Saturdays December 3 December 10, and December 17 at 1 PM, continues. This event is perfect for children who want to practice reading aloud to a teen buddy who will gently guide and engage the child in reading. All levels of reading welcome! For more information, please call the children’s desk. If you are a teen interested in volunteering to be a teen buddy, please contact Miss Tegan Conner. For grades K-2. Registration required.
